Sunderland’s New Number 11 Looks Forward To 2018
Darren Bent, Sunderland’s new striker and record signing, has taken little time to offer his support to the city’s bid to be a host city for the 2018 football World Cup. No sooner had he arrived on Wearside, than Darren was flying the flag for the Sunderland 2018 campaign.
Darren Bent has already made his mark on the pitch, with Sunderland’s goal in the pre season friendly against Hearts. Now, as he prepares for his first season with the Black Cats, he’s giving his backing for the Sunderland 2018 bid, recognising the huge significance attached to England winning the right to host the World Cup.
Darren Bent, comments:
To play in a World Cup is the pinnacle of any footballer’s career and to see the tournament held in England in 2018 would be absolutely amazing. Our country has a proud sporting tradition and I’m sure that a World Cup on home turf would help to inspire the next generation of young footballers. I know everyone in the country will be getting behind the campaign and I’m proud to lend my support to the England 2018 bid and to Sunderland’s campaign to be part of that incredible event.
I know, even from my short time here, that everyone at Sunderland is working really hard to give the bid their full support. People in this region are so passionate about football and the Stadium of Light would be a brilliant venue for World Cup games.
Sunderland’s campaign to be a host city in the Football Association’s World Cup bid has already attracted backing from many thousands of individuals and businesses across the North East and the UK, and from around the world.
