Club Pitches In For 2018

Pitch banner over centre circle

A giant circular banner will grace the centre of the Stadium of Light’s pitch before Barclays Premier League games this season as Sunderland Football Club continues to back the bid to bring the 2018 World Cup to England and the North East.

The 18 metre banner, bearing the Sunderland 2018 logo, will be in place as turnstiles open and will remain on the pitch throughout the players’ pre-match warm-up, until just before kick off.

With the Barclays Premier League watched in over 200 countries, a potential audience of over 700 million will be able to see the club’s very visual support for the 2018 campaign.

The banner made its first appearance prior to Sunderland’s opening home game of the season against Chelsea last night.

Chairman Niall Quinn:

Everyone is working tremendously hard to demonstrate just how much hosting the 2018 World Cup means to us. We are keen to do whatever we can to support the FA’s bid and naturally we hope that Sunderland and North East England will be an integral part of that bid.
I would continue to urge everyone across the country and especially the North East to show their full support to the campaign.
