South Tyneside College shows its support for Sunderland 2018 bid

Students and staff at South Tyneside College have been showing their support for Sunderland’s regional bid to host World Cup matches in 2018 by signing special ‘back the bid’ books.

Karen Redhead, Vice Principal (Curriculum and Quality) at South Tyneside College is delighted to be associated with the bid. She comments:

A successful bid would put the North East on the map, as well as bringing economic benefits and improvements in infrastructure to the region. If successful, our students and staff would witness some of the best football in the world right on their doorstep, a memory which will stay with them for a lifetime. It’s great that our students and staff have been given the opportunity to show their support.

Lesley Callaghan, Marketing and Commercial Director of Sunderland AFC is delighted that South Tyneside College is getting behind the bid:

Public enthusiasm will be an important factor in the evaluation of the applications to be included in the 2018 England World Cup Bid. As a regional bid, the positive response being given to Sunderland’s campaign is a clear statement to the football community that the North East public will make sure that World Cup matches at the Stadium of Light are very special occasions, which will live up to England 2018’s desire to make a World Cup in England, the best tournament ever.

To back the bid by SMS message, supporters need to text “Sunderland2018” followed by their name, house number and postcode, all to 62299. Texts are charged at the standard network rate.
